Couples & polycule therapy in NYC — for every kind of relationship.

​Relationships are complicated — and honestly, couples therapy works best when the therapist actually understands the relationship they’re sitting with. That means understanding that not every relationship is two people. That some partnerships are queer, trans, or non-binary. That non-monogamy and non-traditional relationship structures are not problems to be solved or indicative of pathology. That polycules have their own dynamics, their own strengths, and their own particular friction points that a therapist trained only in traditional couples work simply isn’t equipped to navigate.

 

At Express Yourself Therapy, we work with all of it. Couples, triads, polycules, and relationship networks of any structure — LGBTQIA+ or heterosexual, monogamous or not, in any combination of gender identities. We meet your relationship where it is, not where someone else thinks it should be.

Sessions available in person in Manhattan or virtually across New York State. All relationship structures welcome.

HOW WE WORK

Relationship therapy at EYT is collaborative and direct. Our therapists are trained to help you slow down the dynamics that keep you stuck, understand what’s actually happening beneath the surface of recurring conflicts, and build the communication skills and relational tools to navigate hard things differently.

We draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, depending on what best fits your relationship, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, IMAGO, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic and attachment-based approaches.

For polycules and multi-partner networks, we’ll work with you to figure out the best session format: full network, subgroup, or a combination. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to multi-partner therapy, and we’ll be honest with you about what we think will be most useful.
