EXPRESS YOURSELF THERAPY

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Individual therapy in Manhattan — for whoever you actually are.
Starting therapy is rarely simple. There’s the practical part — finding someone who has availability, accepts your insurance or fits your budget, and is actually located somewhere you can get to. And then there’s the harder part: finding someone you can actually talk to. Someone who doesn’t require you to translate yourself, who won’t flinch at the parts of your life that feel complicated, and who is genuinely curious about who you are rather than just what’s wrong with you.
That’s what individual therapy at Express Yourself Therapy is built around. We offer one-on-one therapy for adults and teenagers (13+) in Manhattan and virtually across New York State. Our therapists are affirming across identity, sexuality, relationship structure, and experience — and we offer a sliding-scale fee structure so that cost is a conversation, not a wall.
In person in Manhattan or virtually across New York State. Currently accepting new clients.

HOW WE WORK
Individual therapy at EYT is collaborative. We don’t hand you a workbook on session one and tell you to track your thoughts. We also don’t sit in silence waiting for you to figure it out. We work actively alongside you — listening carefully, asking questions that go somewhere, and being honest with you when we notice something worth paying attention to.
Our therapists draw on a range of evidence-based approaches depending on what fits you best, including:
-
Psychodynamic therapy — understanding how your past shapes your present
-
Eye Rapid Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) — helps your brain process painful memories so they feel less overwhelming using guided bilateral stimulation.
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS) — working with the different parts of yourself
-
Somatic and body-based approaches — working with how stress and trauma live in the body
-
Attachment-based therapy — understanding your relational patterns and how they formed
-
Affirmative and anti-oppressive frameworks — because oppression and marginalization can shape every aspect of life
We’ll tell you what we’re doing and why. If something isn’t working, we want to know. Therapy should make sense to you, not feel like something being done to you.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your first session is a conversation. We’ll ask about what brought you in, what you’ve tried before, what’s working in your life, and what isn’t. You’ll have space to ask questions about us, our approach, and whether EYT seems like the right fit. You’re interviewing us, too.
From there, most clients meet weekly or biweekly. Sessions are 50 minutes. We offer both short-term, focused therapy and longer-term open-ended work, depending on what you’re looking for. We'll do regular check-ins to help us assess what's working, address any challenges, and keep you moving toward your goals
A free consultation is a low-stakes way to get a feel for who we are, ask any questions you have, and determine whether EYT is the right fit. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you reach out. You just need to reach out.
